Improving Reading Comprehension Through Summarizing

The lesson “Improving Reading Comprehension Through Summarizing” teaches children a new reading strategy to enhance comprehension and improve study skills and habits. The children will learn to frequently summarize information while reading to improve their comprehension of the material. Using this technique, they will analyze and article and answer questions following the exercise. The lesson includes guided instructions for the teacher, including preparation, a script, and suggested activities to facilitate further learning in a fun and interactive manner. This lesson is designed for children between 9-11 years, and is the 40th lesson in the 2nd Year “Critical Response to New Information” unit.
